The request is almost always the same: the English Storyline course is done, it tracks in the LMS, and now L&D needs Spanish. The expensive reflex is to duplicate the .story file, translate slide by slide, and export a second SCORM zip that may or may not complete the same way.
That rebuild is the delay. You already have a published course zip. Translate that zip. Leave Articulate out of the language pass.
Why duplicating the Storyline file fails
Storyline is the right tool for interactions, variables, and layout. It is a poor translation environment. A Spanish copy of the project usually means:
- A second source of truth that drifts from the English master on the next content update
- Triggers, layers, and states that break when text length changes
- Screenshots and narration that still teach English
- A new SCORM export with different identifiers than the course the LMS already reports on
If the instructional design is finished, you do not need another .story file. You need a Spanish version of the zip you already trust.
The no-rebuild Storyline workflow
- Export SCORM from Storyline the way you already do for English.
- Upload that course zip and choose Spanish as the target language.
- Run AI translation on HTML and locale strings inside the zip. Leave SCORM driver pages alone.
- Review buttons, quiz feedback, glossary terms, and anything too long for the layout.
- Swap images and audio that still show English. Accept and download the Spanish zip.
- Upload it to Moodle, Canvas, or Blackboard the same way you upload any other SCORM course.
The same steps for French, German, and the rest
Spanish is the first language most teams ask for. French, German, Portuguese, and Japanese use the same upload-review-export path. Captivate and Rise exports work the same way: the authoring tool produced a SCORM zip, and that zip is what you translate.
If you already have finished language versions and the LMS should host one catalog item, merge them into a multilingual SCORM package with a launcher. Translation creates the missing language. Merge is for the languages you already have.
